Religious Education

CATHECHETICAL SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2007

AT THE 9:15 AM MASS

 

 Religious Education -Registration for the 2007-2008 School Year will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2007 at Cathedral Center School, 160 West 11th Street, Erie, PA after the 9:15 AM and 11:00 AM Mass or you may register by calling Miss Karen Hund at 814-452-4276 or 814-450-3711 or email at khund@velocity.net.

 

Classes run from September through April.

Classes, for Grades 1-6, are held on Sunday mornings from 10:15 - 11:30 AM.

Classes for Grades 7-10 are held on Sunday evenings from 6:30-8:30 PM.

Classes are held at the Cathedral Center, 160 West 10th Street, Erie, PA 16501 and held by catechists.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is for men and women who are interested in joining the Catholic Church. Those interested meet weekly throughout the year (September through March).  The Catechumens and candidates are received into the Church at the Easter Vigil on Saturday, March 22, 2008. The First class will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at 7:00 PM in Synod Hall. For more information or to register please contact the rectory office at 453-6677, ext. 8.

 

First Reconciliation-according to Diocesan policy, First Reconciliation will be administered to students in second grade.  Students will be prepared for the reception of the Sacrament of Reconciliation in their religion classes.  Prior to the reception of the sacrament, there will be a parent meeting on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at 7:00 PM at Cathedral Center, 160 West 11th Street, Erie, PA.  First Reconciliation will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 9:00 AM.  For more information please contact Miss Karen Hund at 452-4276 or 450-3711.

 

First Eucharist-according to the Diocesan mandate, First Eucharist will be celebrated with children in the third grade.  Students will be prepared for the reception of the Sacrament of the Eucharist in their religion classes.  Prior to the reception of the sacrament there will be: Eucharistic Procession and presentation to the parish community on Sunday, October 21, 2007 at the 11:00 AM Liturgy and a  Parent meeting on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 7:00 PM at Cathedral Center, 160 West 11th Street, Erie, PA. First Eucharist will be on Sunday, May 4, 2008 at the 11:00 AM Liturgy.

 

Confirmation-Students to be confirmed must be a junior in high school or older.  Students will participate in seven classes from September through April. Classes are from 10:30 AM to 12 Noon at Cathedral Center, 160 West 11th Street, Erie, PA. Confirmation candidates must complete 20 service hours, with at least 10 being hours to the parish community.  Parish service requirements will be distributed to candidates at the first meeting.  Candidate must attend a confirmation retreat with their class in the spring.

   Parent/Candidate meeting will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2007 at 2:30 PM at Cathedral Center.

   Rite of Enrollment will be held on Sunday, October 21, 2007 at 11:00 Liturgy.

   Sponsor meeting will be held on Sunday, February 3, 2008 at 2:30 PM at Cathedral Center.

   Retreat Date is Friday, April 18, 2008 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Youth Ministry provides a variety of service, social and spiritual opportunities to students in all grades. Visit the Youth Ministry page for details and current activities.

 

Why Catholic?-is an opportunity for adults of the parish to gather together in small faith-sharing groups to study a section of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.  Small groups gather once a week for a six week session.  There will be two six-week sessions offered this coming year.

   Session 1: The Sacraments of the Church - October 7 to November 11, 2007.

   Session 2: Life in Christ: Walking with God - February 3 to march 9, 2008.

 

Baptism-in order to fully understand the Sacrament of Baptism, parents are to attend a Baptismal Preparation Class prior to the baptism of their first child.  Classes are held on the third Thursday of the month at 7:30 PM in Synod Hall.  Please call the rectory office at 453-6677, ext. 8 to register for the class.  Baptisms are held on the first and third Sunday of the month at 1:00 PM.  Please call the rectory office at 453-6677, ext. 8 to schedule your child's baptism.
