Unfortunately the Newp did sell. It was sold to some guy in Sweden at 2005 Fall Carlisle

Here's a chance to own a genuine 60's big block Mopar with the hard work finished. The C-body Mopar (Newport, New Yorker, 300, Polara, Monaco, Fury) is picking up steam as a collectible car because the prices of A, B, and E bodies are skyrocketing. You can own this unique, beautiful cruiser for about half of their cost. Here's the story of my 1968 Chrysler Newport, the "C-Monster."

It was purchased new in NW PA and has been here all its life. My brother & I bought it in 1992 from the original lady owner when it had an astonishingly low 35,926 miles on it. I have a copy of the original title and a signed odometer statement claiming the true mileage. My brother purchased another Mopar in 2001 and I then became the sole owner.

Starting in April of 2001, we began the process of fixing the body and preparing for another coat of the Chrysler code WW1 Polar White paint. The rust was sandblasted, repaired with fiberglass matting and covered with etching primer. During the bodywork we made a decision not to fix the rust at the rear window, as we just couldn't bring ourselves to tear up the beautiful, 100% original vinyl top. The rust is not visible and remains hidden under the top. There is a small leak around rear glass but I figured I'm only going to drive it in nice weather and its garaged the rest of the time.

After the paint job was applied, I began rounding up as many NOS pieces I could find. Finding any NOS pieces can be tough but NOS C-body stuff is even more of a challenge. Here are the items I found and installed: the fender-mount turn signals, front wheel lip moldings (don't ask what I paid for them), right front headlight door molding and the ammeter.

I had a local upholstery shop replace both front seat inserts that had some small rips with upholstery from SMS. I also replaced the carpet with a new one from Auto Custom Carpets. There is a small rip in the passenger right rear area but the rest of the interior is 100% original and in beautiful condition. While replacing the carpet I found and still have the build sheets as well as the original date coded carpeting stickers.

I needed some new tires and went out looking for some large whitewalls but came home with some yellow lettered NASCAR tires. I had them mounted on Mopar road wheels without the chrome trim rings to add to the look. The tires look great and certainly make this C-body stick out in the crowd! I get the "thumbs up" from young and old alike. It's a blast to drive. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the 'C' taking it to local car shows, the Mopar Nationals and just driving it but we just had our second child and are contemplating a move to a new house so the 'C' has to go.

Here's the rundown of features as well as a list of other things I've fixed or replaced:

This car is a very nice driver and always gets looks. To see it in person is the best way to appreciate it. There is a small dent in driver's door that I will leave the next owner to fix and small rip in R/R interior panel. The carb was rebuilt about 1,000 miles ago but better performance would probably be had with a new Holley or AVS-type carb. Other than these small items, the hard part is finished and the car is yours to enjoy and drive while perfecting and personalizing it. I have over $7,000 in parts and labor not to mention my countless unpaid hours. My "Reserve" and "Buy It Now" are below what the NADA "High Retail Value" calls for. It's a lot of car for the money and is every bit an original big block Mopar!

I'm more than happy to show the car to anyone here in Erie, PA and will take extra pictures of whatever you'd like to see. Email me with any questions at qman@velocity.net or call me at 814-452-6203. I'm generally available 6:00PM - 11:00PM EST.

I've done my best to describe the car and, as with any used car that is nearly 40 years old, there are bound to be things that will wear our or break just because age or wear. For this reason this car is sold as-is with no warranty or refunds.

I have car listed on eBay and other publications so I reserve the right to end auction early if sold through another avenue. The high bidder is required to send a $500 deposit within 72 hours of auction end. PayPal can be used to send deposit. Balance of payment required in seven (10) business days via certified bank check or cash in person.

I'm willing to drive car to National Trail Raceway in Columbus, Ohio for the 25th annual Mopar Nationals August 12-14 for winning bidder. I can help arrange delivery within a 60-mile radius of Erie, PA; locations past that will be the buyer's responsibility.

Please don't bid if you are not a serious buyer. This auction is not a way to secure an appointment to come and decide whether or not you want the car. I expect that if you are the high bidder you actually purchase the car for the bid amount. You bid is your way of saying you've read and agree to these terms.

Thanks for looking - Buy it and give the "C-Monster" a good home.
