Attorney Paul Troskosky To Receive Excellence Award

Paul Troskosky, managing attorney of Northwestern Legal Services (NWLS) Bradford office, has been chosen to receive a 2006 Excellence Award from Pennsylvania Legal Services. The award honors members and friends of the legal aid community in Pennsylvania who exemplify excellence in their work on behalf of low-income clients with civil legal concerns.

"Paul has worked very hard on behalf of individuals and families in McKean and Potter Counties who could not afford to hire an attorney on their own," explained NWLS executive director Robert Oakley.

"Legal aid has truly been his life's work, and he has furthered the cause of justice by his efforts. He is certainly deserving of this prestigious award," he added.

Troskosky joined Northwestern Legal Services in June 1974 when a legal aid office opened in Bradford, and he was promoted to managing attorney in November of that year. For over three decades, he has provided free representation and counsel to thousands of low-income clients with civil cases such as child custody and support, government benefits, unemployment compensation, bankruptcy and landlord/tenant disputes.

In addition to his work in legal aid, Troskosky has been active in the McKean County Bar Association, serving as president of that organization in 1989.

Pennsylvania Legal Services is an agency that administers state funding for legal aid. Troskosky and other 2006 Excellence Award winners will be honored at a dinner on March 21 at the Harrisburg Hilton & Towers. Chief Justice of Pennsylvania, Ralph J. Cappy, is the scheduled speaker for the event.
