If we look around us today, it is obvious the world needs a savior. But, the salvation of God is firstly for the individual. Each person in the world has to believe on Christ as the Scriptures have said in order to receive initial salvation from God. That is then followed by one living in reliance on the Lord Jesus in the sure hope that He is coming back to establish His kingdom on earth. In the pages that follow, I want to give some of the basics of our faith, but I want to start here with some basic facts that show each man's need of salvation.

The problem in the world is sin because men are born sinners who commit sins. The Apostle Paul said,

"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).

All have sinned means all are born sinners. This verse is referring to our condition as fallen men rather than the sins we commit. Those are only a result of what we are when born, namely, a sinner.

Another thing Paul said regarding sin is,

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 6:23).

In other words, when we die, we receive our wages for choosing to remain a sinner, separated from Christ, and that payoff is spiritual death. Just as physical death is when the spirit is separated from the body, spiritual death is when the spirit lives separated from God. Physical death is temporary, while spiritual death is forever.

What is the main issue with God in all of this? That man sinned in the Garden of Eden by turning away from what God had said and prohibited God from carrying out His plan to exalt His Son Jesus over all things. Through man's rejection of God's word, and therefore, rejection of Him, man "slew" the life God wanted for him. That life needs to be "repaid" so to speak, or atoned for, and things made right with God. Man could not accomplish that through good works because all he could bring forth onto the earth were more sinners. That's because we came from fallen parents (Adam and Eve) and are of the same nature. That is where Jesus enters the picture. Scripture says,

"Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, 21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God" (1 Peter 1:18-21).

Our faith, then, is in God, that though the body dies, we can be redeemed from our sinful nature, the sins we commit and from physical death when we die into His presence through the shed blood of God's Lamb and the power of His resurrection:

"And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. 12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God" (Romans 8:10-14).

This is what the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ is all about. When we hear the gospel and believe the gospel and repent of our sin, it is because we trust that through Christ's shed blood, death and resurrection God has established salvation for men, He unites us to Himself forever by giving us the Holy Spirit to reside in our spirit. That is a result of our believing in Jesus and eternal life, and to enter into it, each man must do according to what Peter said at Pentecost when the gospel was first preached:

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. 40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. 41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls" (Acts 2:38-41).

God says no matter what your sins are or how great they are or how many of them there are, He has provided in Christ the way to forgive you and cleanse you of them. He has atoned for them by sending His Son, Jesus, to earth to die for our sins and be our sacrifice offered to God for them. God says no matter how much you think you are a sinner who can't stop sinning, He has provided His Son to be your life and justification and righteousness before Him. Through Christ we can stand before God in perfect righteousness just as if we never sinned and by His Spirit in us live a righteous life.

To summarize all of this, let's go over again these few points of what I have said:

  1. Recognize and acknowledge that we are all sinners and need forgiveness, including yourself: "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).

  2. Then, confess your known sins to Jesus, for
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us" (1 John 1:9).

  3. We must each receive Jesus for ourselves. Nobody can do that for us. It's an individual thing, personal between you and God. To receive Him means to believe on Him as the Scriptures have said:

"12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God" (John 1:12-13).

Believing on Him and receiving His Holy Spirit as He promised gives us eternal life, for

"12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God" (1 John 5:12-13).

  4. All of this is not possible unless we believe Jesus is alive today. Romans 10:9-10 says,
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raiseth him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

If you believe all I've written of my Savior, then you can turn to God now and thank Him for His salvation because if you believe Jesus died for your sins and is risen from the dead, you shall be saved when He returns:

"So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation" (Hebrews 9:28).

Jesus is coming back to complete our salvation by redeeming our bodies from death by giving us a new body to live in for all eternity.

Have you believed the above? Then you are saved because you believe in your heart in the Lord Jesus. If you have believed, read through this again and tell God our Father by confessing to Him your faith in Christ. You don't have to pray a beautiful prayer to be saved, just a heartfelt one filled with faith in Him. He is waiting to hear from you about His offer of salvation.

It is important that you have fellowship with other Christians once you have believed on Christ, but I must sadly tell you, the Church is in major apostasy right now because Jesus is coming back after a time of trouble on this earth that the Bible tells us about. Read about it on my home page and on other home pages as well, trusting in Him to maintain you in the truth by your reading His word and relying on the Holy Spirit in you to teach you about Him. Read your Bible everyday, relying on the Holy Spirit in you to teach you the truth about Christ and the times we are living in. Ask Him to lead you to other Christians who are truly walking in Christ according to His word.

May he bless you and keep walking in His truth as the day of His coming draws near.
