The World Wide Ramifications Of The Tabernacle
Part 6: Preparation Toward Fulfillment

All of this preparation done in one night - the lamb's blood on the door, cleansing out the leaven - was to bring Israel to the point of waiting for the Lord to come at midnight and lead them out of Egypt. In fact, Moses told Israel to be ready to leave while they ate the slain lamb:

Exo 12:11 And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD'S passover.
Exo 12:12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.

We, too, find ourselves in a like-situation, eating of Him, cleaning out the old leaven, all while watching and praying and staying alert for the time when He will return in wrath. It will, more importantly, be the day of our deliverance. The circumstances are very similar. Paul said in Romans 13:11-12,

Rom 13:11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
Rom 13:12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

Midnight Of The Passover In Egypt

All having been prepared in Egypt on Passover night, the Lord was going to pass through Egypt at midnight of the 14th-15th:

Exo 11:4 And Moses said, Thus saith the LORD, About midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt:

And Scriptures tells us that,

Exo 12:29 And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt . . . .

Israel marched out of Egypt, 600,000 strong plus women and children, filled with the slain lamb and freed from the leaven of Egypt.

God Passed Over The World At Calvary

In 1 Corinthians 5:7, Paul said Christ our Passover has been sacrificed. The meaning of the word Passover here in Strong's is:

6453. pecach, peh'-sakh; from H6452; a pretermission, i.e. exemption; used only tech. of the Jewish Passover (the festival or the victim):--passover (offering).

6452. pacach, paw-sakh'; a prim. root; to hop, i.e (fig.) skip over (or spare); by impl. to hesitate; also (lit.) to limp, to dance:--halt, become lame, leap, pass over.

In the New Testament, Jesus turned away God's wrath from ALL MEN because He died for ALL MEN. God "PASSED OVER" OR "HOPPED OVER" THE WHOLE WORLD at Calvary because He saw the blood that was shed FOR ALL MEN on the Door. He had established a house of refuge for all men from His wrath. Since the blood was shed for everyone, God COULD SLAY NO MAN AT THAT TIME.

Furthermore, when God passed through Egypt it was in the darkness of night, and when God passed over Calvary and the world, there was also "darkness over all the land":

Mat 27:45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. . . .
Mat 27:50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.

In Egypt, there was a sword and a cry of agony in the night. At Calvary, there also was a sword and a cry of agony in the darkness: "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me!" At the ninth hour, when Jesus died crying out to the Father, the darkness ended. No one was slain, but He Himself. He Himself, our High Priest, our sacrificial Lamb, the Word of God, the Living Sword of the Spirit (see Rev. 19:13,15; John 1:1), had "slain" Himself for all men by the authority of the Father. He fulfilled His own words:

John 10:17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
John 10:18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

The bread and wine of the Passover meal was given by Jesus to remember Him in this sacrifice, and in the reality of the finished work on the cross, a place of refuge from His coming wrath was provided to be accessed by faith. This "place" of refuge would be available to all men all the way into the Millennial kingdom, a "house" in which to hide in Him, with Him as its blood-covered Door.

The Midnight Of Passover In Egypt

All of the preparation for the Passover in Egypt lead up to ONE MOMENT of redemption, protection and provision. All the preparation was done because SOMEONE was coming, and THAT'S THE POINT OF ALL OF THIS: All of these types of Christ, the world, and the Church form a condensed, complete picture of where we are as a people in this very hour - WAITING FOR SOMEONE in this spiritual darkness to bring judgement to the world and set us free forever. Just as sure as that SOMEONE passed through Egypt, just as sure as that SOMEONE passed over the world at Calvary, so will that SAME SOMEONE come in our day as a thief in the night because THERE IS YET A PASSOVER TO BE FULFILLED. That SOMEONE TO COME is the risen Lamb of God, OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST.

Notice: there were only two options in Egypt the night of the Lord's Passover: Judgement:

Exo 12:12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.

Or, salvation from the sword:

Exo 12:23 For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.

The only element of that one night in Egypt that is missing in Paul's exhortations to the Church is the Angel of the Lord who smote the Egyptians that night, and that will be fulfilled by our Lord Jesus Christ:

Rev 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. . . .
Rev 19:15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. . . .
Rev 19:21 And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth . . .

Smiting The First-Born

Exo 12:12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.

This will also happen when Jesus' returns with God's wrath to fulfill Passover:

For I WILL PASS THROUGH THIS WORLD THIS NIGHT AS A THIEF IN THE NIGHT, and I will SMITE ALL THOSE OF ADAM, THE FIRSTBORN OF THIS WORLD, . . . I WILL EXECUTE JUDGEMENT: I AM THE LORD OF LORDS AND KING OF KINGS.

The smiting of Adam's race will take place even as the Egyptians' first-born were smitten:

Rev 19:17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;
Rev 19:18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.

We can see by all these types and foreshadowings that we are indeed in a like situation as Israel of old. The night is here, but our God is coming to judge the world and finally set His people free. And just as the Lord provided a blood-stained door and a house as a place of refuge from the Israelites in Egypt, so HAS HE PROVIDED A BLOOD-STAINED "DOOR" AND A "HOUSE" AS A PLACE OF REFUGE from the coming WRATH in Christ.
