The Throne Of God Above The Cherubim
Part 3: Do The Four Cherubim Return With Christ?
By Ed Tarkowski

If this is all plausible, then an important verse to ponder would be found in Revelation where the throne of God and the mercy seat (chariot of the cherubim - 1 Chronicles 28:18,19) is moved to the millennial kingdom:

Revelation 11:15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
16 And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God,
17 Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned.
18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.

Daniel describes the fiery coming of Christ and in that description are implied, I believe, the cherubim in the phrase, "his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire":

Daniel 7:9 I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.
10 A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.

Paul speaks of this fiery coming in 1 Thessalonians, and angels accompanying the Lord in His return:

2 Thessalonians 1:7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:

Are the mighty angels the cherubim? Possibly. The terminology used to describe the "throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire" certainly befits the description of the Cherubim in Ezekiel. In Ezekiel 1, we also read that the cherubim "ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning":

Ezekiel 1:13 As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, and like the appearance of lamps: it went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning.
14 And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning.
15 Now as I beheld the living creatures, behold one wheel upon the earth by the living creatures, with his four faces.
16 The appearance of the wheels and their work was like unto the colour of a beryl: and they four had one likeness: and their appearance and their work was as it were a wheel in the middle of a wheel.
17 When they went, they went upon their four sides: and they turned not when they went.

I think the statement that the cherubim "ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning" is very interesting because Jesus said,

Matthew 24:27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

You could read this verse as saying there would be lightning when He comes, or, you could read it that His coming will be AS lightning shining from east to west. Though it deserves more study, I am ready to at least give consideration to the idea that the four living creatures return with Christ at His coming.

The following was written from an email from Tim warner of the Last trumpet web site, who has come to these same conclusions. have edited it slightly for this article:

The Throne of God is a chariot, carried by the four creatures. Note the following passage, which describes God's glory returning to the Temple in the Millennium.

Ezek 43:1-7
1 Afterward he brought me to the gate, even the gate that looketh toward the east:
2 And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east: and his voice was like a noise of many waters: and the earth shined with his glory.
3 And it was according to the appearance of the vision which I saw, even according to the vision that I saw when I came to destroy the city: and THE VISIONS WERE LIKE THE VISION THAT I SAW BY THE RIVER CHEBAR; and I fell upon my face.
4 And the glory of the LORD came into the house by the way of the gate whose prospect is toward the east.
5 So the spirit took me up, and brought me into the inner court; and, behold, the glory of the LORD filled the house.
6 And I heard him speaking unto me out of the house; and the man stood by me.
7 And he said unto me, Son of man, the place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel for ever, and my holy name, shall the house of Israel no more defile, neither they, nor their kings, by their whoredom, nor by the carcases of their kings in their high places.
(KJV)

The vision that Ezekiel saw at the river Chebar is the vision of Ezekiel 1:1. This is the vision of God's chariot being carried by the cherubim.

The Throne of God, that Ezekiel saw, and John saw in heaven, will be housed in the Holy of Holies in the Millennial Temple. This is why Jeremiah says that during the Millennium, there will be no place for the Ark of the Covenant:

Jer 3:16-17
16 And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more.
17 At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart.
(KJV)

This also gives new meaning to the 6th seal. Remember, this is the cosmic signs that occur at the second coming. But look at the last verse:

Rev 6:12-17
12 And I looked when He broke the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth {made} of hair, and the whole moon became like blood;
13 and the stars of the sky fell to the earth, as a fig tree casts its unripe figs when shaken by a great wind.
14 And the sky was split apart like a scroll when it is rolled up; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
15 And the kings of the earth and the great men and the commanders and the rich and the strong and every slave and free man, hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains;
16 and they said to the mountains and to the rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the presence of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb;
17 for the great day of their wrath has come; and who is able to stand?"
(NAS)

This is Armageddon. And the kings and armies gathered to fight can SEE both the "Lamb" as well as Him who sits on the throne. What they see that strikes fear into their hearts is the same thing Ezekiel saw.

Compare the following verses:

Dan 7:13-14
13 I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.
14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.
(KJV)

Matt 26:64
64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
(KJV)

In Dan. 7, at the second coming, Jesus is going to stand before the "Ancient of Days" an receive His Kingdom. That is, there will be a literal ceremony whereby Christ is handed His Kingdom here on earth. This scene is on earth, not in heaven. Therefore, the Throne of God is here!

The verse above from Matthew was written to the unbelieving nation of Israel. How would unsaved people see Christ at the right hand of the Father and coming in the clouds? Because at the second coming the Father is coming also on His throne, carried by the cherubim, with Christ beside Him on a white horse.

BTW, this makes the "great multitude" scene in Rev. 7 a Millennial scene, with the Throne of God in the Temple. And God DWELLING AMONG MEN. See my article at See the following excerpt on this webpage:

EXCERPT FROM ARTICLE I PASTED IN FROM ABOVE WEBPAGE- ED:

3. They are worshipping before the Throne in the Temple, [Rev. 7:15]. This is the Millennial Temple described by Ezekiel in chapters 40-44. Ezekiel specifically states that God's Throne, (which is portable, complete with living creatures, with wings and retractable landing gear, who carry the Throne, [Ezek. 1:1-28] ) will be moved to the Millennial Temple, [Ezek. 43:1-9]. Daniel also describes the Throne of the "Ancient of Days" moving to earth at the time when the "Son of man came with the clouds of heaven," [Dan. 7:9,13,14,21,22, see also Jer. 3:16,17]. This appearance of Jehovah coming on His Throne, (as in Ezekiel's vision of chapter 1, [cf. Ezek. 43:3 & Ezek. 1:1] ) and the appearance of Christ on the white horse beside Him, is what strikes fear in the hearts of men at the sixth seal. "...hide us from the face of Him that sitteth on the Throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of His [Their] wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?" [Rev. 6:16,17]. Jesus said to those who were about to crucify Him; "ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven." [Mark 14:62]. No doubt He was referring to the Day of the Lord. The armies gathered around Jerusalem to wipe out the Jewish remnant, and defeat the "Messiah," will suddenly find their arrogance turned to terror when the sun turns black, the moon turns blood red, meteors begin raining down, the earth begins to quake violently, and they see a brilliant light engulfing the clouds over the Mount of Olives, [Matt. 24:29-31]. As the clouds roll back like a scroll, and they see Jehovah sitting on the Throne, and the Warrior on the white horse at His side, with millions of saints and angels in their wake, no wonder they call for the rocks to fall on them to hide from the face of the Almighty. [Read: Psalm 2:1-12, Isaiah 13:3-13, Isaiah 26:21, Joel 2:1-11, Micah 1:3.]
