DEMONICAL SOMNABULISM - (possession) the seizure of a physical body by an inferior etheric world entity with evil intent; occurs with such rapidity and force that the victim loses consciousness and the body takes on the personality of the entity; facial features become twisted, language is obscene and vulgar, even though the person is well-bred; body performs physical contortions normally impossible to human beings; sometimes behaves like an animal; body becomes so strong that it takes many to subdue it; not willed consciously. Syn. DIABLICAL POSSESSION [cf. POSSESSION, LUCID POSSESSION, HOLY SPIRIT POSSESSION].
Many likenesses to the Toronto Experience in its various manifestations.
DEMONOMANIA - an individual behaving as if in a convulsive seizure; believed to have an inferior or evil etheric world entity in his or her body, which uses it for its benefit; see POSSESSION [cf. DUAL PERSONALITY, DIOABOLIC POSSESSION].
Convulsive-type seizures describe some of the Toronto Experience.
DERVISH - A Mohammedan holy man (and psychic) following an order of the Sufi philosophy and culture; noted for raising his state of consciousness by special group dancing in which one whirls and twirls while chanting until he experiences a state of bliss, ecstasy, or psychic help and guidance for his daily life; dance, chants, and circle formation work in harmony with a polarity energy that keeps the dancer from becoming tired or dizzy. Syn. SUFISM, MOVEMENT FOR ALTERED CONSCIOUSNESS].
I mention this definition to show that dancing (the "Indian" dance some ministers and others do) and chanting (repetitious singing) can bring on a change in consciousness without lose of balance and without dizziness.
DHIKR - (Sufi) a dance or method of worship to produce a state of ritual ecstasy to accelerate the contact of one's mind with the world mind or to put oneself in a state ready for trancing; a series of exercises repeated in unison; bodily movements linked to a thought and a sound, or a series of sounds, in relation to musical rhythm. [cf. MANTRA, PHYSICAL PSYCHIC PROCESS, WHIRLING DERVISHES].
As I type this, I am watching TBN with a music leader singing one phrase over and over and the audience answering him in a repeated phrase accompanied by "bodily movements linked to a thought and a sound, or a series of sounds, in relation to musical rhythm."
DISTANT HEALING - (mental healing) to use mental telepathic procedures to heal another; practitioner meditates, builds energy in the mind by concentration, and beams it to the patient; the following make the treatment more effective: 1. prearranged time between both parties; 2. Performed after 11:00 p.m. 3. Practitioner sends a love-line just before beaming energy; 4. practitioner says first name of patient repeatedly; distance is no abrrier; should never be performed without consent of patient; researchers found telepathic heakling changes body chemistry. (Iconcl.) [cf. MENTAL HEALING, MAGNETIC HEALING].
Simiarites to what is performed by Hinn and Pat Robertson. Hinn concentrates as he holds his hand out to the television camera when praying for someone in another place and speaking to their sickness.
DISTANT-POINT VISION - to perceive clairvoyantly at will what is happening in areas not visible to the physical eye. Syn. EXTENDED CLAIRVOYANCE, TRAVELING CLAIRVOYANCE. [cf. X-RAY CLAIRVOYANCE, BILOCATION OF CONSCIUSNESS].
Again, Hinn and Robertson both call out people being healed who are at a distance an not in the vicinity.
DIVINE IDEA - information, knowledge, suggestions and concepts that come psychically to an individual using the skill of inspirational thought. [cf. INSPIRATIONAL SPEAKING, INSPIRATINAL WRITING].
Similar to source of the "new revelations" and "words of knowledge" used in ministering to others.
DIVINE INTOXICATION - (ancient) to receive a mass enfolding psychic experiences within a short time, resulting in spiritual upliftment; brought on deliberately or occurs without a consciously known reason, e.g., to be flooded with vivid dreams each night; to become entranced with the awe and the beauty and accuracy of the psychic experiences. [cf. FORCED PSI,. INITIATORY SICKNESS, MOVEMENT-FOR-ALTERED CONSCIOUSNESS].
Browne's original experience is one example, as well as the experience of thousands at "revival" meetings around the glove.
