Solid modeling is a method of designing 3D parts for visualization,
engineering, analysis, computer aided manufacturing and
documentation. Here is a sample 3D solid model core created using
state-of-the-art modeling software. Shown is
the steel core insert which injection molds half of a plastic tape
measurer housing. A wire overlay is included in the top model.
It shows the internal cooling water line circuit, 6 ejector pin
holes, 2 o-ring spot face grooves, 4 bolt holes, 1 runner, and
cavity I.D. number. This model has 2 deg. drafts and radii have
a minimum of .030 in. radius. It took 4 hours to build this model.
