** What is a virtual model?
A virtual model uses 3D generated data to represent
object(s) or things in order to convey information in
a visual way. This is generally done using 3 dimensional
CAD or rendering software.
** How accurate can a virtual model be?
The accuracy depends on the initial input and capabilities
of the particular software used in creating it. A virtual
model can be very accurate depending on the requirements
and applications that it may be used for. When it is for
visual presentation only, the accuracy may be less than if
the model would be used for other purposes. A higher model
accuracy can result in finer details and features but
usually at the expense of adding more data to the model
file. Computer processing time will generally increase in
manipulating and modifying the model when using a higher
accuracy.
** Why use virtual models?
They can be used to accelerate product development and
design and thus save time. The resulting models can be
used for conceptual visualization and marketing. You can
add impact to a business proposal using digital images and plots
of the model before it is even prototyped or manufactured.
The model can be viewed by prospective customers,
manufacturers, sales managers, marketing directors,
designers and engineers. With proper planning a virtual
