Modem Setup Instructions

THESE INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDE YOU WITH A BASIC WALK-THROUGH OF THE GANNON UNIVERSITY DIAL-UP MODEM SETUP PROGRAM. IF YOU NEED TO DOWNLOAD THE MODEM SETUP PROGRAM TO YOUR PC, SIMPLY CLICK HERE.

WHEN PROMPTED, SAVE THE DOWNLOAD FILE TO YOUR DESKTOP AND DOUBLE-CLICK ON THE SAVED "GUSETUP" EXECUTABLE TO LAUNCH THE FOLLOWING SETUP WINDOWS:

1. Type your Gannon Network ID in the username field and your Gannon password in password field.

2. Click the drop down arrow next to the
Dial-up Number box and select your local dialing area.

3. If you have call waiting and would like to turn it off while online, simply check the box entitled "To disable call waiting, dial:". Next, select the correct cancel call waiting number from the drop down box. (*70 or 70# are the most common options.)

(HINTS: DO NOT disable call waiting if you are using modem on hold. DO disable it if you are using Call Wave.)

4. Select "Tone" or "Pulse" depending on the phone service installed at your location. (The tone setting is most frequently used.)

5. Check or uncheck "Remove Existing Dial-Up and Email Accounts" as necessary.

OPTIONAL: If you have decided to remove existing dial-up accounts in step 5 and you would like to choose particular accounts for removal, click the "Select" button. You may then check or uncheck items as necessary. Checked items will be removed. Click "OK" when finished.

(If you have a Virtual Private Connection dial-up account you use, you will want to make sure that particular account is left unchecked so that it is not removed.)

6. Check or uncheck "Set as the default Internet connection" as per your preference. (If you are going to be connecting via the Gannon LAN via ethernet or wireless when on campus you will want to leave this unchecked.)

7. Click "OK" to finish.

8. When the wizard is complete, it may ask you to disable Visual Basic Scripting (VBS) for security reasons. If you don't know what VBS is, you are probably not using it and it is safe to click "yes."

9. Once the software has completed the installation, a G.U. Modem Connection icon will be added to your desktop.

10. To access the Internet via the G.U. Modem connection, double-click on the icon and the connection screen will appear. Hit the connect button to dial.
