How Does It Work?
With traditional dial-up methods, the text and graphics that make up web pages get sent from the remote server to you over your phone line. Because this is often a large amount of data, this process can be painfully slow over a modem connection. To improve performance, Velocity.Net’s Web Accelerator first compresses this data, and then sends it to you. This compression process allows a smaller amount of data to be sent - up to six times less - making the download time of your web pages that much faster. As an added time saver, Velocity.Net’s Web Accelerator stores elements of the web sites you visit frequently, eliminating the need to re-download them every time you visit these sites.
What Gets Accelerated?
To achieve the fastest web and email acceleration available, "lossless" compression is applied to text, html, xml, JavaScript and style sheets. Image compression is applied to gif images, jpeg images and Flash content. Velocity.Net also accelerates email traffic, and is compatible with any POP3/SMTP client, including Outlook Express, Eudora and Netscape Mail. (Velocity.Net Accelerator does not currently accelerate music file downloads or streaming audio/video media.)

- Pop-Up Blocker - Velocity.Net Accelerator can help prevent pop-up windows and floating Macromedia Flash advertisements from appearing while you browse the Internet. This feature is enabled by default, and no user-intervention is required. However, you can also easily disable these features at any time. Velocity.Net Accelerator allows you to specify a "white list" of sites where pop-ups will be permitted.
- Banner-Ad Blocking - Stop the ads, and surf faster!
Velocity.Net Accelerator can block many graphical advertisements that appear on web pages (i.e. inline ad banners). Enabling this feature will help prevent these ads from being downloaded and displayed in your browser, reducing download time.
Velocity.Net Accelerator offers the most extensive compatibility. Velocity.Net Accelerator works with Internet Explorer 4.0 (or later), Netscape Communicator 4.0 (or later) and any web browser that allows you to specify an HTTP proxy. (Consult your browser's documentation for additional information.) Velocity.Net Accelerator supports Windows (95/98, ME, 2000, NT, and XP) as well as MAC OS-X). The recommended system requirements are a Pentium PC 200MHz with 64MB of RAM and at least 5 MB of hard-disk space. On a Macintosh computer, a PowerPC G3 processor with OS X 10.2 (or later) with 333Mhz and 128MB RAM and 6MB of hard drive space is the minimum requirement.
